“Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.” – Nora Ephron

One of my very favorite people in the whole wide world Nora Ephron crossed over this Tuesday. What will we ever do without her witty, wildly wonderful voice in the air to comment on everything we know we shouldn’t really care about – but just can’t stop thinking of. Nora wrote; ”Our faces are lies and our necks are the truth. You have to cut open a redwood tree to see how old it is, but you wouldn’t have to if it had a neck.” Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliantly brilliant!

God I LOVE that woman.

Oh Nora, damn it. The thing is… even in death you are more alive than most of us.

I always admired her aliveness. Her innate ability to never miss a trick then poke fun at said trick with a golden touch of irreverence and aw. If there is a human I was ever inspired by it was ( is ) Nora.

The quote above. The idea of being your OWN hero. This is what I aspire to more than anything else in this life. I have a feeling it what Nora wanted too.

Nora, you were not only the heroine of your life but you were a heroine in my life and so many other women’s lives like me. Women who love to laugh more than anything else in the world. Especially when it is wickedly inappropriate!  Women who love the people they love with every ounce of everything they have. Women who feel a need to excel at every blessed thing they do -even if it is something as meaningless as making a souffle and choosing the best wine to serve it with. Women who need to know everything. Including who is and what is terribly interesting or not worth a second thought at all. Women who came of age at a time when the world was not quite ready to deal with just how loud and proud real women can be.

I know that Nora was not a big “believer” in this sort of thing but if there is a Heaven? I hope the Angels are ready for our darling Nora to amuse and entertain eternally. I envy those Angels… wings and all.

*For all those in The Friday’s Child Circle of Prayer and for all those in need. We send… Love, Light and Oceans of Bliss for the Highest Good of All. And so it is.

Have a sweet one!
