Mostly Funny With A Chance Of Pain
K, let me just say this before I write on. I do not have some fancy terrible sense processing disorder. However, with some frequency, I could swear I’ve heard someone say ” this ” when they have really said ” that.” Keep in mind the ” this ” I hear is usually pretty funny. So, I never want this confusion to stop. I have similar visual oopsy with signs in parking lots or billboards on the highway.
I saw a sign in the parking lot of a supermarket I read as; ” This store is not responsible for drama caused in the parking lot.” The sign actually read; ” This store is not responsible for damage to your car in the parking lot. “
See what I mean? I have a laundry list of these little vision and auditory slips.
The other day the weather report was on TV and I caught an earful. The Weather Lady was going on about a heat wave in the South. A earthquake in the West. Then I could have sworn I heard her say the weather prediction for the weekend up North was -“Mostly cloudy with a chance of pain.”
As soon as I realized my error I laughed out loud and I continue to LOL every time I think of it. This audio-visual quirkiness has brought me more joy over the years than a winning lotto ticket ever would. I feel a bit foolish when first I realize my mistake. But for someone whose only expectation of life is to be endlessly amused and entertained? It’s kinda workin’ for me. I don’t handle a lot of heavy machinery for a living so I can afford a gaff every now and then.
These mistakes are simply a momentary lack of true perception. If I were really paying attention I would be missing out on the comedy.
This lack of perception is not limited to signs and weather reports. How often do we have confused communications with people? People we know and love. We hear them saying one thing when they actually said nothing of the kind. Even when we pay attention mistakes will be made. We are not always going to get it right the first time. Or the second and third time.
There is grace and giggles to be found in every day mistakes. Lighten up. It’s only life!
And you know what I say about life?
Mostly funny with a chance of pain.
