A Pretty Little Start
Should. The word should. We need to lose that word. As Louise Hay says it is just one of those words that sooner or later will always make us wrong. It makes us wrong when we are all just doing the best we can do most of the time. What’s so wrong about that? Should is a word that benefits no one. A word that creates a feeling of discontent that is hard to shake off.
As a writer I am quite taken with words. You don’t have to be Ella Fitzgerald to know the power of a well written lyric, right? Our words can make the day or break a heart in a moment.
We are at the very beginning of a new year. Our resolutions and vision boards still fresh in our minds.
I don’t know about you but I really want this year to be one where I turn up, keep up, shut up, and do what I came here to do -without a lot of ifs, and’s, or buts about it. I don’t want to hurt myself with a steady ration of you-really-should-have’s. It rarely pays to second guess ourselves. Ya know, we don’t have to be right all of the time. If there is a lesson to be learned… learn it.
Keep in mind that lesson does not just vanish from the pages of your agenda. It may return and return again just for a spiritual spot check. With the type of lessons I have had to absorb my only prayer is that I handle them with more grace than I did the last time.
So, o.k. so far so graceless. But at least I am fairly certain I know where I need to be and that is a pretty little start. A pretty little start indeed.
Should. Well, it starts out innocently enough and then it goes like this.
I should have never given up that job. I should have never bought into that verkocteh investment. I should have never left Kansas. I should have left that shlemiel years ago. I should lose forty pounds and get a real life already!
S-H-O-U-L-D should – a plain useless word if there ever was one.
Listen to yourself and those around you. Mind what is being said and how it is expressed. When upon reflection you decide one of your old go to words are no longer serving you? Let that bad boy go.
And while you are at it… let that bad boy go!
