And May You Stay Forever Fun!
Today is my dearest friend’s birthday. Looking back over the years we have had the honor ( more times than either of us would like to admit ) of celebrating her birthday together. I would host her special day at my home. We would go for a lady lunch in Beverly Hills. There would be a rowdy Margarita induced gathering with a gaggle of our mutually wild and lovely friends at a Mexican restaurant. Oh, how we love our our sassy south of the border gal pal Rita!
A Gemini party would be held in the Hollywood Hills where as many as five Gemini honorees would be celebrated at once. These parties would inevitably fire up an old Motown jam afterward. Big fun! One year we celebrated at a flamenco dance palace in Los Feliz called El Cid. We both love dance, dancing, and dancers! Champagne, cake, paella and PRESENTS!! Oh how we love our presents. We love pink. Pretty. Lacey. Fem-fem feminine. We are the last of the Girly Girls and we are proud!
It’s the sunshine of my life to have a friendship and a friend that never seems to grow old. Even though the four old dancer knees between would beg to differ. Both of us stopped dancing at an age where we have been able to put off the knee replacements for maybe another ten years. Or maybe not? HA! When I hit the lotto I am taking us both south of the border for stem cell treatments so that we may avoid that particular cliche.
We will do those treatments right after the fat farm and a round of therapeutic shopping. Of course “Rita” is invited to the whole chabang. And we will do this laughing all the way because we are funny girls from way back when it wasn’t cool to be a funny girl. Only pretty was required. But we two had higher aspirations. It’s always a smart ass rendezvous when we get together. Which we do by daily text since we no longer live a few blocks away from each other. We, “The Textettes” take our silliness seriously and refuse to not see the humor in whatever situation life manages to hogtie us into. We play and pray together and it has managed to keep us both out of trouble most of the time.
If I would have any sage advice for my friend today and for any of you reading this blog? I would offer this. It’s a little pip I came up with for my own birthday earlier this year. And that is to seek out the magic and light in every scene the movie of your life puts up on that screen. It isn’t always going to be pretty. It isn’t always going to have a Motown soundtrack to back it up. It isn’t always going to be Lucy and Ethel madness worthy. But it is your life and it is all ya got. Make it vibrate like a neon sign and feel the sweetness of the groove as much as you possibly can every single day. And that is all I have to say about that. Cue the Stevie Wonder medley wouldja?
Happy Birthday my gorgeous, delightful, funny Cara Mia! Your Bella loves you.
We send… Love, Light and Oceans of Bliss for the Highest Good of All.
And so it is!
