Whatever Happened To Car Hops?
I like to work, read, learn, and understand life. – Langston Hughes
I’m with Langston Hughes. I enjoy all of the things he has mentioned in the quote above with vigor. I try to keep it simple, like Langston. Although trying isn’t doing. You know what happens when you try to do something rather than actually do it? Nothing. Nothing happens. Nada. Zip. Nuttin’.
It is safe to say that “trying” is a waste of precious time.
I am in gobsmack realization of just how precious time is these days. My trying days are over. Well over.
The year has danced on by faster than a rock drummer on meth playing Wipe Out. And there is no getting behind the beat now to play it again with feeling. It’s gone. Gone like Forbes Field. Gone like black and white TV. Gone like tunic sweaters with shoulder pads. This last bit being living, breathing, proving proof there is a God.
I have spent most of the year working. Would have enjoyed more work but it wasn’t required.
Endings were required. Big ends. Little ends. The end of an era and a way of life that no longer suits. It happens to all of us at some juncture or other. We find it necessary to let go of what it looks like on paper and embrace what it acts like in the arctic light of day. If it doesn’t keep up with you when you’re walking you cut it loose. When “it” is a human this grafting is not easily done. Not easily done at all but when ya gotta, ya gotta.
We learn how to breathe for one again and in time we appreciate our own company. If we hold out for the real thing it comes along and the lonely nights are soon over. For awhile or forever.
It is always tempting to look back and think that the old days were the best days. They were the simple days. They made sense and you felt secure bla-bla-bla. Don’t buy into illusion cause it is not worth a dime.
Hindsight is a romantic fool with dementia and a serious drinking problem.
I like those old Chevy’s and drive-up diners as well as the next Baby Boomer. I also miss my twenty-something perfect jaw line as well as the next gal does. Yeah, that was pretty. This not so pretty stuff has its own beauty. If you keep on working and doing. If you stop feeding the weeds and tend to the flowers. If you live your life on purpose, today is the best day yet. Mush face and all.
The past is exactly where it belongs. Good, bad, or indifferent it came with its lesson and left us a little wiser. A little softer. A little sweeter. Looking back is fun but the glamour is in what is real.
I love understanding life and how it works.
Sending Light, Love, and Oceans of Bliss.
