What’s Up With The German Opera Already?
Wasn’t it easier in your firefly-catchin’ days? And everything out of reach, someone bigger brought down to you Wasn’t it beautiful runnin’ wild ’til you fell asleep? Before the monsters caught up to you? -Taylor Swift
I’ve been seeing “lightening bugs” at night here in Iowa. The first I’ve seen since I left home over forty years ago.
Sweet little things they are. I watch them as they burn proud and bright for a few seconds before they dimmer down. We humans do the same sort of thing. We become all excited and jacked up about something and we glow. An inspired state often contagious enough to light the flame for others.
When we are on fire life is good. But the cycles of change and achievement can overwhelm us and we “simmer down.” Or maybe we just have trouble accepting the truth and it wears us down? The truth being diametrically opposed to what we think life should be.
Life should be easier.
People should be more rational.
Our love is here to stay and the reasonable length of a thunderstorm could not possibly be six freakin’ hours!
We really have it bad when we refuse to accept reality.
Shame, eh?
I wonder why we torture ourselves trying to turn day into night so much of the time? I dunno. However, I can guarandamnteeya we will be forever unhappy in this life as long as we refuse to accept it as is and on its own terms. As is without the benefit of glamour make-up or soft lighting. And with the screaming unspoken terms that the challenges will never end.
We need to make fast friends with all of the things that would dare dim our light or the imagined enemy will win.
I feel one of the keys to staying lit-up is to actually be super clear about what I am actually responsible for. Do “my job” so I won’t let myself down. That’s a lot of work. And it is enough work.
Now that I have this straight I feel better already!
The challenges and “what is” of life never has to reach operatic proportions if we refuse to allow it. We can let the drama unfold or let it go and opt for lighter fare.
Choose well kid.
When the goin’ gets tough? Stay on your side of the road and shine on baby… shine on.
Have a sweet one!
