Yesterday Today & Tomorrow
We have all heard similar expressions such as the one quoted above by Coach Wooden. I would take his words of wisdom a step or two further. Tomorrow is not only determined by what you do today. Tomorrow is determined by what you think, say, and DO NOT do today.
Let me tell ya a little tale.
When I was younger I was not so much a human-being as I was a walking temperament. My thinking was incorrect. I did a lot of crazy things. And it didn’t take much for me to flip someone off with my Bette Davis routine when disturbed. It took many years of attitude adjustment for me to dial it back. I have ocassional flare-up but for the most part I’m a real pussycat unless ya mess with me. ;*} I also have little tolerance for what I consider to be poor behavior, inconsideration, or second-rate anything.
I’m working on it but in truth I’m not really getting anywhere fast with this last bit.
I do now recognize what my triggers are.
I guess in essence I’m not as clueless as I was when I was 22 years old but I’m too often unwilling to let go and accept what is gracefully. My judgemental thoughts and mixed-up feelings affect my behavior. I don’t storm out of a room and slam doors anymore but I do shut down and isolate.
I’m not a complete ninny. I know this sort of behavior is a waste of time and I will pay for it tomorrow.
If life is truly a work of art-I’ve spilled my fair share of black paint on my canvas. If what I do today determines my tomorrow then what’s the weekend lookin’ like? No picnics in that park I can tell ya!
Whether or not our lives are going swimmingly we can’t help but be effected by the world around us. If you are brave enough to watch the news? Hand-basket, hell, going fast.
There is no excuse for not making this day the best day we can possibly have.
On a personal level I would say to mind the cheap shots. It’s unkind and it makes everyone nervous. On a larger scale we may not be able to make a masterpiece every day but the least we can do is attempt to Make Art Not War
