Be Kind Rewind
I love a good quote don’t you? How about this one from Joe Girard? “The elevator to success is out-of-order. You’ll have to use the stairs…one step at a time.” Classic, eh? It isn’t always easy to accept this but it is as true as true can be.
I’m an impatient person. I say this knowing impatience is an All-American pastime. I feel better knowing I am not alone and a mighty nation endorses my foolishness wholeheartedly. Now my-mama-didn’t-raise-no-fool. I know impatience is not a virtue. I’m working on it. I meditate. I take deep cleansing breathes. I count my blessings before I push senior citizens and toddlers out of my way at Costco.
But what about my impatience with myself? Why do I allow my Inner Terrorist to ravage me so? Oh, and the language! My Inner Terrorist would make a Marine blush, honey. What a mouth! What is “IT” so flippin’ upset about? Just because I’m moving so slowly on my Yearly Intentions it is pitiful? Maybe IT has a point. I don’t know.
What I do know is this. Endeavors generally take longer than you think they will. Painting a room, doing your taxes, setting up a blog, increasing your business, releasing the 40 lbs you gained 8 years ago already! These things have a life all their own and we just have to get used to the fact that we “aren’t the boss of them.” The process of success can be as cantankerous as a grounded teenager denied her cell phone. Pouty, resistant to reason, and just plain mean. But don’t let that put you off. Accept the fact that you will just have to be twice as stubborn to make headway.
Remember those signs they used to have up at the video stores? “Be Kind. Rewind.” This is what we need to do to with ourselves when frustrated with our mis-steps and lack of progress. Be kind to yourself, patience, rewind, and stop whining about the broken elevator. Taking the stairs one step at a time is a good thing. It will make our hearts stronger.
Heaven knows I could use the exercise.
Have a sweet one!
